Ben Kuiken Organizational Philosopher
About
After 25 years as a journalist, I shifted from reporting on organizations to thinking deeply about how they actually work. I wrote several books exploring these ideas (including The Last Manager and The Most Meaningful Book You Will Ever Read), and in 2024 I completed a PhD on sensemaking: the process by which we make sense of the chaotic, ambiguous world around us.
My work draws on philosophers like Nietzsche and Deleuze, but it's grounded in practical questions: How do teams actually make decisions? Why do some organizations adapt while others ossify? What does it mean to create meaningful work?
My latest book, Rethinking Sensemaking: Tools and Techniques for Organizations, is coming out with Palgrave Macmillan in February 2026. Pre-order it here.
